Mr. Elijah Andrew Akinyemi is a retired Permanent Secretary in the Ogun State Civil Service. A lofty model of repute, Mr. Akinyemi with dynamism stretches minimum opportunities beyond maximum expectation.
Born on 29th June, 1958 in Bale Akinosi Village in Ajiwon-Alagbado axis of Ifo Local Government Area in Ogun State of Nigeria, Mr. Akinyemi’s bout with measles at age two years was his vehicle for qualitative education at Pacelli School for Blind Children, Lagos, Nigeria—1962-70, Igbobi College, Lagos, Nigeria1972-76, Eastern Washington University, Cheney, Washington USA—1981-82 and Portland State University, Portland Oregon USA—1982-84.
In his thirty-year Working career between 1988 and 2018 in the Ogun State Ministry of Education, Mr. Elijah Akinyemi transformed Special Needs Education to maturity by championing the creation of programmes for the betterment of the physical, health, emotional and competitive spirit of disadvantaged children.
His passion in advocacy for the rights and privileges of the disadvantaged class, coupled with his vision for the enshrinement of the inclusion, Dignity and respect for diversity culminated in the establishment of Damsel Hew Foundation (DHF) to complement the health, education and welfare of children convalescing as patients in public hospitals as well as other juveniles in correctional homes and orphanages. The structure, to immortalize the short but fulfilled life of his daughter, Abisola Abiodun Akinyemi, 1995-2021.
He is the author of “Vision Beyond Sight”, a guide for parents, source of inspiration for PWDs, special educators/administrators and fact-finding for members of the general public. His local, national and international accolades, spotlights and features are numerous on both print and electronic media.
Mr. Akinyemi is blessed with close-knit associates, family and admirers.
